Women in Ocean Science is both a non-profit CIC organisation and a female empowerment project, dedicated to tackling gendered issues in marine science, conservation and related careers.

Danni Washington | Presenter & Science Communicator

Danni Washington is a TV host and Science Communicator who is also the first African-American woman to host her own science television series. Danni is deeply passionate about our oceans and science communications. She dreamed of studying the oceans since she was six years old and that passion has fuelled her work as a TV host, thought leader, public speaker, and more.


Sarisher Mann | Sustainable Finance

Specialising in sustainability leadership and sustainable finance, sustainable finance expert, Sarisher Mann, has an optimistic outlook that influences all aspects of her life. Her experience as an Economist, and current role in sustainable finance communication aim to accelerate sustainable development within the industry and beyond. Sarisher also founded a sustainable mountain regions multi-stakeholder initiative following a Masters in Sustainability Leadership at Cambridge University.


Dr. Sian Henley | Academic

Dr. Sian Henley is a marine biogeochemist studying nutrients in the polar oceans and their response to and role in climate change. Sian is a lecturer in marine science at Edinburgh University and also is an investigator on two projects as part of the UK NERC Changing Arctic Ocean program, which aims to characterise and quantify the changes in marine biological productivity and biogeochemical cycling occurring in response to rapid warming and sea ice losses in the Arctic region.


Divya Nawale | Sustainable Finance

Divya is the youngest women to have visited Antarctic from India, having travelled there twice with UN Goodwill ambassador Robert Swan OBE's foundation 2041- as a youth champion representing India in 2009. For her environmental initiatives with 2041 Foundation and Nirmaan Foundation Divya was awarded the BITS Alumni 30 Under 30. Divya has 10+ years of international work experience in the sustainability space and currently works with Asian Development Bank as Staff Consultant on clean energy and energy efficiency programs across Southeast Asia.


Larissa Clark

Larissa Clark leads high impact PR, media and communications campaigns for mission-driven organisations through This Chapter PR and is the Co-Founder of adventure travel specialists Another World Adventures


Melissa Marquez

Melissa Márquez is a marine science education expert, currently finishing her doctoral degree at Curtin University. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Mexico, Melissa has worked at the forefront of marine science education and communication for over a decade, hard at work combatting the misinformation that's rampant in ecological fields — and paving the way for Latina women like her in science.


Dr. Jodie Rummer | Academic

Dr. Jodie Rummer’s background is in marine biology and comparative physiology. She is currently an Associate Professor of Marine Biology at James Cook University and Research Associate at the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. Internationally, Dr. Rummer is also on the editorial board for three scientific journals and is part of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Committee (IOC) advisory panel on global deoxygenation (Global Oxygen Network, GO2NE), which is part of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development program.
