Women in Ocean Science To Host Two Events at This Year's UN Ocean Conference

We are delighted to announce that Women in Ocean Science has been accredited to attend the UN Ocean Conference 2022 in Lisbon this year and shall host two events during the week. We're pushing to bring gender equity, especially within underrepresented communities, to the forefront of the oceans conversation this year. Please see event details below:

The Gender Equity in Coral Reef Conservation panel discussion brings together female stakeholders from reef communities across the globe to share perspectives on the fundamental role of women in the protection and longevity of these tropical ecosystems and the communities they support. Covering topics ranging from local community environmental stewardship to increasing the visibility of women in maritime careers, join us for an informative discussion and a unique opportunity to learn more from our panel about why gender equality is so important in coral reef social-ecological systems. Hosted in collaboration with ICRI and The Commonwealth Blue Charter.

Leveraging Human Rights & Gender Equity to Achieve SDG 14 | UNOC Event

UN accreditation is required for this event

A roundtable discussion on the human rights and gender equity dimension of fisheries and aquaculture governance, devising strategies to enhance sustainability of the sector, while simultaneously enhancing the development and dignity of fishing-dependent communities. Speakers will unpack the potential to work towards achieving SDG 14 in ways that bring multiple development benefits and enable progress in achieving other SDGs. Hosted in collaboration with The Commonwealth Blue Charter, Danish Institute for Human Rights, Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC).
